Flash Flood Watch Issued for Stephens Co.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for Stephens County.

It is scheduled to be in effect through Friday morning for Stephens, Franklin, Habersham, Hart, Rabun, and Elbert counties.

Wednesday night, storms moving through Stephens County dumped 1.56 inches of rain on downtown Toccoa.

Other areas, however, may have received more than that.

The storms also caused some power outages, though neither Georgia Power or Hart EMC are reporting any outages as of 5:30 a.m. today.

According to the National Weather Service, a very moist air mass should allow numerous showers and scattered thunderstorms to continue across the area today.

The National Weather Service says if those storms move slowly, they could produce excessive rains in some locations with some areas having a chance to see 1 to 3 inches or more of rainfall.

That, the National Weather Service, says could cause flash flooding along small creeks and streams.
