Fired Atlanta Fire Chief to Speak At TFC

The former Atlanta Fire Chief at the center of controversy over his termination from the city of Atlanta will speak in Stephens County next week.

Former Atlanta Fire Chief Kelvin Cochran will speak on February 12 at 7 p.m. in the Grace Chapel and Performing Arts Center on the campus of Toccoa Falls College.

Admission to the event is free.

Cochran was terminated after complaints regarding his self-published book, “Who Told You You Are Naked?”

According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed fired Cochran after distribution of his book, in which Cochran condemns homosexual acts as “vile, vulgar and inappropriate,” at work.

The AJC said Reed contended he did not fire Cochran because of his viewpoints but for not obeying rules, including not getting clearance to write the book and failing to remain quiet while the city investigated him.

Others have condemned Atlanta officials for terminating Cochran.

Supporters of Cochran said he was unfairly terminated for his Christian beliefs and for publicly stating those beliefs.
