Fire Station Buildings Almost Complete

fire stationWork is almost done on three new fire station buildings in Stephens County to increase coverage.

Stephens County is using SPLOST VI money to build stations on North Holcomb Drive and Red Bluff Road to provide more coverage to the Big Smith Fire Department, and Black Mountain Road to provide more coverage to the Shiloh Fire Department.

County Administrator Phyllis Ayers said that the three buildings are nearing completion and almost ready to be moved into.

“The three fire stations are in the final phases,” said Ayers.

She did say there is a little more work to be done, like water lines, on Red Bluff Road.

Ayers said that it is possible that the county will move into the new buildings at the end of this month.

She said they had hoped that the buildings would have been done already, but the weather pushed completion back.

Once done, county officials say the new buildings will not only help fire station coverage in the county, but they will also lower ISO ratings for some homeowners in the county.

Ayers said those lower ISO ratings will eventually lead to lower homeowner’s insurance costs for some homeowners in the county.

Completing the three fire station buildings was also one of Stephens County Commission Chairman Dennis Bell’s goals for this year.
