Final Holiday Traffic Numbers In For Ga. Highways

The final traffic numbers for the Thanksgiving holiday period are in from the Georgia Department of Public Safety.

Officials reported that traffic crashes across Georgia during the Thanksgiving holiday travel period resulted in 20 traffic deaths.

The holiday period began Wednesday, November 23, at 6 p.m. and ended Sunday at midnight, for a total of 102 hours.

None of those traffic fatalities took place either in the Toccoa or Hartwell posts of the Georgia State Patrol, which cover this area.

Troopers investigated 13 fatal crashes that resulted in 17 traffic deaths.

The fatal crashes occurred in Putnam, Laurens, Dougherty, Carroll, Bryan, Lamar, Coweta, Decatur, Gilmer, Grady, Warren, Ware, and Oglethorpe counties.

Local agencies reporting traffic deaths during the holiday period were: Floyd Co. PD, Savannah Chatham Metro PD, and Cobb Co. PD.

Statewide, Georgia State Troopers investigated 608 traffic crashes that resulted in 286 injuries.

In addition to crash investigations, State Troopers arrested 273 people for driving under the influence.
