Preparations are underway for an annual holiday event in downtown Toccoa.
Toccoa will once again host the Festival of Trees during the first full weekend of December.
Main Street Toccoa Events Coordinator Sharon Crosby said the Festival of Trees is a great way for businesses, organizations, and others to support the area’s non-profits during the holidays, all while decorating the historic Stephens County Courthouse.
“A business or organization or even an individual can put a tree and any of the funds that come from that will go to a non-profit organization,” said Crosby. “So they will set up a tree, designate a specific non-profit and then people cast their vote for their favorite tree. It is $1 per ticket and whoever has the most tickets will receive a $500 award. That is to go to the non-profit.”
The decorated trees will be on display in the Courthouse in conjunction with the 2013 Toccoa ChristmasFest, held the evening of December 6 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm and Saturday, December 7from 12 noon to 4pm.
Crosby said those wishing to participate can either pick up an application at the Main Street Toccoa office in City Hall or download one online at www.mainstreettoccoa.com.
“We do ask that it be an artificial tree with lights,” said Crosby. “There is no cost to participate. We encourage businesses to participate and make it just a really fun event.”
