FEMA Reimbursing Stephens Co. For Winter Storm Cleanup

Some federal money is headed to Stephens County to re-imburse it for storm cleanup from this winter.

Back in April, Stephens County was among 15 counties in north Georgia that received a federal disaster declaration for ice and snow that hit rom February 15 through February 17, 2015.

The declaration made Stephens County eligible to receive federal funds to help offset part of eligible costs of debris removal, emergency protective measures, and the repair or replacement for disaster-related damages, as determined by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

On Tuesday, Stephens County EMA/E-911 Director Denny Folsom updated commissioners on that re-imbursement process.

Folsom said that the county has been approved to receive thousands of dollars back for money spent specifically on debris removal and cleanup.

According to Folsom, the county will receive just over $51,900 for storm cleanup.

He said the county should receive the money from FEMA in the next couple of months.
