Fatal Wreck Over Weekend in Toccoa
Authorities in Toccoa are investigating a fatal accident over the weekend.
Reports indicate the accident took place Saturday in the Wal-Mart shopping center near the Verizon retailer.
Toccoa Police Chief Tim Jarrell said that the accident did involve a motorcycle and a car.
Jarrell added that his department has asked for assistance from the Georgia State Patrol to investigate the accident.
That was not the only fatal wreck in the northeast Georgia area over the Labor Day weekend.
The Georgia State Patrol said one person was killed in an early Saturday morning accident in Madison County.
According to the GSP, the one-vehicle crash occurred around 12:45 a.m. Saturday on Georgia Highway 98, one mile north of Comer.
Authorities said a 2004 Dodge Ram pickup truck was traveling south on Georgia 98 when it left the roadway on the west shoulder, struck a culvert with its undercarriage and then struck a tree. The truck then rotated and rolled over before coming to rest on its tires.
The driver, identified by the Georgia State Patrol as 67-year-old Elbert Foster of Bowman, was killed in the crash.
GSP officials said no one else was in the vehicle.
Officials also stated that the seatbelt was not in use and alcohol may have been a contributing factor.
