SANYO DIGITAL CAMERAThe community comes out to recognize Toccoa’s own Evan Oglesby for the development of his Evan Oglesby Foundation Center.

A Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting was held Thursday at the center, which is at the old Toccoa High School gym on Pond Street in Toccoa.

Oglesby is a Stephens County High School graduate and a former National Football League player giving back to Toccoa and Stephens County.

Through his foundation and his center, Oglesby offers a basketball program, fitness programs for children and adults, academic assistance, and more.

Oglesby said the goal is to help bring together and grow the community.

“We just try to empower the kids to achieve excellence,” said Oglesby.  “We try to live above our limits.  It is a big world out there and I want those guys to achieve greatness.”

Oglesby said he is also looking to start a volleyball program and a soccer program for children.
