Toccoa native Ethan Martin gets his first major league win.
He went five innings for the Phillies Thursday afternoon as Philadelphia defeated the Chicago Cubs 12-1.
Martin allowed just one run and four hits over his five innings of work, striking out four and walking three.
The only run he allowed was a solo home run in the fourth inning by Cubs’ right fielder Nate Schierholtz.
He threw 95 pitches to pick up his first win in what was his second major league start.
MLB.com quoted Martin as saying that he had thought about winning a game at the major league level for as long as he can remember.
The Phillies called up the 2008 Stephens County High School graduate last week.
He is now 1-1 on the season.
