Today is the deadline to submit written comments to the Georgia EPD regarding proposed changes to rules affecting composting facilities in the state.
State officials said they must have the comments by 4:30 p.m. today, which is the close of business.
Comments can be e-mailed to [email protected] and should include “solid waste rule amendments” in the subject line.
According to officials with the EPD, the rule changes would take the permitting process for composting facilities from a one size fits all process to a tiered structure with different rules for different facilities.
A number of local residents and officials traveled to Atlanta to express concerns over the proposed state rule changes at a public hearing earlier this month
They said they are concerned the proposed changes do not go far enough and have also expressed concerns about changes in language in the rules.
The EPD said that the proposed rule changes will be voted on by the state’s DNR board next month.
