Enrollment Up at NGTC

North Georgia Technical College is seeing higher enrollment numbers.

The school announced this week that for the Fall Semester, North Georgia Tech saw an increase in numbers for overall total enrollment from all three campuses – Clarkesville, Blairsville and Currahee.

North Georgia Technical College said it realized a 6.6 percent increase in students with a total enrollment of 2,843 for the Fall 2016 semester.

In addition to that, North Georgia Technical College said it set a new fall-semester record with its Move on When Ready dual enrollment program numbers for Fall 2016.

According to the school’s Director of Admissions, Michele Shirley, enrollment in the program increased 80 percent over last fall, seeing an increase from 238 students to 430.

Move on When Ready is a dual enrollment program which allows high school students in 9th through 12th grades to earn college credit while working on their high school diploma. Tuition, fees and books are covered by the program. Students may enroll in general education or technical education courses with approval from their high school guidance counselor.

North Georgia Tech President Dr. Mark Ivester said that the school is very excited about its increase in enrollment.

He said there is a high demand for these workplace skills and the college is dedicated to making sure each student is successful.

Regarding the Move On When Ready program, Dr. Ivester said it is a win-win situation for parents and students, getting students credit hours that can transfer without counting against HOPE scholarship program hours while exposing the students to college demands at an earlier age.
