Eastside Snaps Indian Baseball Winning Streak

The Indians’ eight-game winning streak is over after the Eastside Eagles picked up a 7-2 victory over Stephens County in Region 8-AAAA baseball action Wednesday in Covington.

After an RBI single from Austin Lord gave the Indians a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning, Eastside scored 6 unanswered runs.

Drew Buckhault went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI’s while Nick Womack also recorded 2 hits and picking up an RBI. Daniel Garrett, Hank Steele, Cody Walker, and Musashi Briem all also knocked in runs for Eastside.

Meanwhile, Daniel Garrett pitched a complete game for the Eagles to pick up the win, striking out seven batters while walking only two.

Kain Dyer-Hewitt took the loss for the Indians, striking out four and walking two while allowing six runs in five innings.

Austin Lord went 2 for 3 at the plate for the Indians with an RBI. Josh Slate drove in the other Indian run on a groundout in the top of the sixth.

The loss moves Stephens County back into a tie with Eastside for the lead in Region 8-AAAA.

Both teams are 10-2 in region play. The Indians are 15-4 overall, while the Eagles are now 18-4.

Stephens County returns to action Friday at home against Monroe Area. First pitch Friday from the Reservation is set for 5:55 p.m. with airtime on AM 630 WNEG and wnegradio.com set for 5:45 p.m.
