Early Voting for Presidential Primary Starts Today

Early voting starts today for the March 1 Presidential Preference Primary in Stephens County and across the state of Georgia.

Stephens County Registrar Bill Cochran said that the county is set up and ready to begin casting ballots in both the Republican and Democratic presidential races.

Cochran said voters deciding to head to the polls during early voting should keep a few things in mind.

“First of all, they need to realize that the location has changed from previous years,” said Cochran. “We are now at 40 Tugalo Street, Suite 250, the old annex across from the historic courthouse. They will have to make sure they bring appropriate photo ID to be able to vote and they will have to pick a party for the primary.”

Cochran said that the county’s poll workers are also ready to go.

He said they came in for training on Friday to be ready for early voting beginning today.

“That is the blessing we have here is we have such a good group of experienced poll workers,” said Cochran.

Early voting runs on Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through February 26.

There will also be a Saturday early voting period on February 20 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., also at the Stephens County Courthouse Annex on Tugalo Street in downtown Toccoa.

Voters can also fill out an application for a paper, mail-in absentee ballot by stopping by the Registrar’s Office.

The last day paper ballots can be mailed out is February 26 and those must be turned back in by the end of the day on Election Day, March 1.
