A repeat drug offender is off the streets of Franklin County.

On Monday, 37-year old Chad Ashley Jacobs of Royston pleaded guilty to possession of more than 200 grams of methamphetamine.

Northern Judicial Circuit District Attorney Parks White said Jacobs is a repeat offender who was sentenced without the possibility of parole.

“He pleaded guilty. We noted him as a recitivist,” White said. “He was charged with Level II Trafficking or Possession in Excess of more than 200 grams of Methamphetamine. Because he had two prior felony convictions, the court required he receive the maximum sentence. So he received a 15-year sentence with no parole and 15 years on probation.”

Jacobs was arrested in April 2014 after authorities found meth hidden in his truck.

“Mr. Jacobs allegedly had over a ½ pound of Methamphetamine in his possession with a street value of approximately $8,000.00,” Franklin County Sheriff Stevie Thomas said at the time. “Deputies also seized $1,400 in cash.”

Jacobs was charged with Trafficking Meth, Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, Possession of firearm during the commission of a crime, and Probation Warrant.   A hold was also placed on Jacobs for Hart County.

Jacobs had been released from State prison in July 2013 after serving two years of a 15-year sentence for meth possession in Hart County, and was on parole at the time of his arrest.

White credited the strong case brought by the Franklin County Sheriff’s office with Monday’s sentence of Jacobs.

“The Franklin County Sheriff’s office made the case,” White said. “The lead investigator was Chris Buffington, with the assistance of the Department of Probation. They did great work in taking down a coke and methamphetamine dealer and trafficker and taking him off the streets.”

Jacobs has a long list of previous drug convictions in both Franklin and Hart Counties dating back to 2008.

With no possibility of parole, Jacobs has a release date of 2030.
