Drought Conditions Still Easing in NE Ga.

Drought conditions continue to lessen in Stephens County.

The latest drought monitor report released Thursday shows that much of Stephens County has moved out of severe drought and is now in moderate drought.

Southern areas of Stephens County near the Franklin and Banks County lines remain in severe drought.

Also, parts of Franklin County, Banks County, and southern Habersham County that were in extreme drought last week have now improved to at least severe drought, if not moderate drought.

Looking statewide, areas of extreme drought have retreated in general over the last week, as less than six percent of the state is in extreme drought this week compared to over nine percent a week ago and there are no extreme drought conditions in northeast Georgia.

That said, the drought monitor reports that dry and drought conditions are expanding slowly across the state.

This week, nearly 74 percent of the state is in some sort of drought or abnormally dry state, compared to under 71 percent last week.

The only areas of Georgia not experiencing dry or drought conditions are in the southeastern and southwestern parts of the state.

Also, the northern half of the state continues to experience drier conditions than the southern half of Georgia.
