A Stephens County bridge is one of five that the Georgia Department of Transportation is having cleaned up and re-painted.

Recently, the Georgia DOT awarded a number of new construction projects.

Among those projects was the cleaning and re-painting of five bridges in northeast Georgia, including the bridge on State Route 17 Alternate, or Big A Road, that goes over the Norfolk Southern railroad at Currahee Street.

The other four bridges associated with this project are located in Hall and Gwinnett counties.

The project was awarded to S&D Industrial Painting of Florida for a total of $608,500.

The DOT says that work would likely begin late this fall. The scheduled completion date is June 30, 2013.

Meanwhile, the DOT also awarded a re-surfacing project for Franklin County.

C.W. Matthews Contracting, Inc. was awarded the contract to resurface State Route 174 in Franklin County from U.S. Highway 29 to east of State Route 51. The 4.5-mile long project was awarded for $697,201.32 and has a completion date of August 31, 2013. Again, work on this project is likely to start later this fall, according to the DOT.
