DOT Announces Water Work for Martin Area Today

The Georgia Department of Transportation said work on the State Route 17 project will affect a water line in the Martin area later today.

DOT Spokesperson Teri Pope said work will begin this morning to install a new water line at the intersection of Yow Mill Road on State Route 17.

“As part of the road widening, utility relocations are still happening,” said Pope. “At the intersection of Yow Mill Road and State Route 17, they will be working today and turning off the water between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. today.”

According to Pope, only a couple of houses are expected to be affected.

Again, that is in the area of the Yow Mill Road/State Route 17 intersection in the Martin area.

This work is all connected to the effort to build a four-lane State Route 17 from the Franklin County-Stephens County line north to Memorial Drive in Toccoa.

Pope said that work continues to go well as crews enter prime construction season.

“This is our bread and butter time,” said Pope. “It is the time when we get the most done, so hopefully you will continue to see a lot of different things happening.”

The entire four-lane State Route 17 is expected to be finished in the Spring of 2016.
