The community comes out to show its appreciation to outgoing Toccoa-Stephens County Boys and Girls Club Executive Director Oliver Dorsey.
Dorsey is leaving the club to assist his father with his business in Decatur, Georgia after spending five years heading up the Boys and Girls Club.
Tuesday, an event to thank Dorsey for his service took place at the club on Whitman Street in Toccoa.
Dorsey said he has truly enjoyed his time leading the Boys and Girls Club.
“It has been a great opportunity to meet and become friends with a lot of different people here in this community,” said Dorsey. “It is bittersweet that I am moving on, but it has been a great experience. I want to thank Toccoa-Stephens County for its support and all that it has done for the children in Toccoa and also for me, welcoming me here.”
Dorsey went on to say that the club has accomplished a lot over the past five years.
“We have increased enrollment with our kids by more than double,” said Dorsey. “We are serving over 300 kids a day. We were able to eliminate a lot of old debt. We are debt-free.”
He also pointed to the partnership with the Stephens County school system.
Dorsey also said he feels the future is bright.
“The club is ready to move forward to a new direction and I look forward to hearing about some good things at the Boys and Girls Club of Toccoa-Stephens County,” said Dorsey.
Dorsey said he would still be around for a few weeks.
Meanwhile, the search for a new Executive Director for the Club is ongoing.
