Donahue Receives Boys and Girls Club Award

A long-time board member and supporter of the Boys and Girls Club in Toccoa-Stephens County receives national recognition.

At the Boys and Girls Club’s 24th annual benefit dinner on March 15, Gary Donahue was awarded the Boys and Girls Club of America’s prestigious National Medallion Award for his unusually devoted service to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Toccoa-Stephens County.

Donahue was a member of the Founding Committee for over 24 years.

As Board Chair and Vice President of Resource Development, Donahue was the spokesperson and goodwill ambassador for the club for many years.

Also, he has served on various committees and councils in support of all Boys and Girls Clubs in the Southeast Region.

Officials said he has been a major donor to the club and has personally secured support from many donors.

Also, officials said he is a member of the Jeremiah Milbank Society, which is an elite group of individuals dedicated to supporting their local Boys and Girls Club.

Toccoa-Stephens County Boys and Girls Club Chief Executive Officer Mark Mendoza said that Donahue has helped lead the club and its board in becoming financially viable, as well as leading major renovations of the facilities.

Mendoza said that Donahue has done more than anyone to promote the club in the community and adds that the club would not exist without his dedicated support.

Donahue continues to serve as the Club’s Area Council Liaison and Board Chair Emeritus.
