Disaster Relief Heads From Toccoa To S. Carolina

A local ministry organization says Stephens County has stepped up to help the people of South Carolina affected by Hurricane Matthew.

Steve Paysen’s P230 Foundation went to the Nichols, South Carolina area Monday.

This area, just south of the South Carolina-North Carolina border and not far off of the coast, was devastated by flooding from the storm.

Paysen collected food, water, clothes, and more last Saturday at Quality Foods in Toccoa to take to the area.

He said the response was amazing.

“I am so proud of our community,” said Paysen. “People showed from 8 a.m. all the way to 2:30 p.m. We never sat down. One man brought 150 suits, coats, and jackets, half of them never been worn. Just amazing stuff.”

Paysen went on to say that he appreciates local businesses that also assisted in the effort.

“Quality Foods has done an amazing job of giving us the stuff at cost,” said Paysen. “Hemphill Trucking provided the truck. Just unbelievable, the community we live in. It is great.”

Paysen was scheduled to return to Stephens County today after dropping off the supplies.

This was not the only trip to originate relief out of Stephens County that took supplies to areas affected by Hurricane Matthew.

Also, Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley took down supplies to Florida earlier this month to help people there affected by the storm.
