DELTA Unit Activated Sunday in Stephens Co.

October 25, 2012

One person is arrested after an incident last weekend that brought out the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office DELTA Unit.

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley said the unit was sent to a location on Falls Road on Sunday.

“We got a call Sunday morning that there was a hostage situation at the home,” said Shirley. “We activated the DELTA unit and were able to secure a search warrant. Once our team was together, we went in during the early afternoon and were able to successfully arrest an individual.”

Shirley identified the individual arrested as James Edward, or “Jamie,” Whitlock, of Toccoa.

According to the sheriff, he is in the Stephens County Jail facing a charge of a probation violation.

Nobody was hurt, according to the sheriff.

DELTA stands for Dynamic Emergency Logistics and Tactical Assault team.

Shirley said that the DELTA unit was created for use in high-risk situations or urgent situations that require a specialized response.
