Currahee Mountain Prescribed Burn Today

March 1, 2013

The U.S. Forest Service says it will conduct a prescribed burn today in Stephens County.

That prescribed burn will be about 300 acres in size and take place in the area of Currahee Mountain, just off of Pear Orchard Road.

According to the Forest Service, it is an endangered species benefit burn.

The burn is expected to start this morning and last for much of the day.

As a result of the burn, the Lathan Cemetery loop will be closed. That is part of the Frady Branch trail system.

The Forest Service notes that people will see smoke as a result of the burn in the area of Currahee Mountain.
