County Continues Looking At Road Work

Work continues towards getting the county’s priorities in order when it comes to road repairs this season.

On Tuesday, Stephens County Administrator Phyllis Ayers updated commissioners on the list of primary roads for SPLOST VI funds this year.

Ayers said that the county is trying to get caught up and moving forward with SPLOST road projects after losing the public works director a couple of months ago.

She said they have brought in part-time help to write bid packages and are getting help in reviewing the county’s road list as well.

Ayers gave county commissioners a list of roads that had just under 30 highlighted roads on it, grouped by which roads had the most traffic and which ones were secondary.

She said that county crews have begun doing work in-house on some of the roads that they are able to.

Meanwhile, Ayers said that they would be looking at all of these roads to figure out how to proceed with them moving forward.

Ayers said that they will strive to do as much of the work as possible in house.

As for putting together a bid package, Ayers said that on the current schedule, Stephens County could put a list of roads out to bid in the middle of July.

She said that would allow the work bid out to get done this paving season.
