Corps Opening More Campgrounds, Day Use Areas This Weekend

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is opening a number of campgrounds and day use areas around Lake Hartwell this weekend.

According to the Corps’ Hartwell Lake Office, Oconee Point and Coneross Campgrounds in Oconee County, South Carolina, along with Paynes Creek and Georgia River Campgrounds in Hart County, Georgia, will open on Sunday, May 1.

In addition to that, a number of day use areas will open for the 2016 recreation season on Sunday around Lake Hartwell.

Those include River Forks Day Use Area in Anderson County, South Carolina; Twin Lakes Day Use Area in Pickens County, South Carolina; Elrod Ferry Day Use Area in Hart County, Georgia; and Friendship Recreation Area in Oconee County, South Carolina.

The Corps said reservations for campsites and picnic shelters can be made by calling the National Recreation Reservation Service toll-free at 877-444-6777 or by going online to www.recreation.gov.
