Community Gathers for Prayer Service for School System

The community comes together to support the Stephens County school system in the midst of its financial crisis.

Thursday night, a large crowd filled the Toccoa First United Methodist Church for a community prayer service.

First United Methodist Church Senior Pastor the Rev. Dr. John Brown said he was very pleased with the turnout.

“You can not complain when the house is full,” he said.

A number of area churches participated in the interdenominational service.

Those in attendance prayed for the students, teachers, families, and leadership of the Stephens County school system.

Stephens County School Superintendent Bryan Dorsey also spoke to those in attendance, thanking them for their prayers and support.

The Rev. Dr. Brown says their goal was to just bring everyone together and provide a spiritual lift and a morale lift to the school system an the community.

He said he feels the community did just that.

“It was good to see people from all of the churches here and a lot of different backgrounds and beliefs, but we all came together for a common cause and it was great,” he said.

Also, bins were set up to collect school supplies for classrooms and a monetary offering was taken that will be donated to the Stephens County school system.
