Collins Speaks Out on UN Resolution on Isreal

9th District U.S. Representative Doug Collins has commented on a U.N. resolution condemning the construction of Israeli settlements.

The U.S. abstained from last week’s Security Council vote.

In response to the resolution, Collins said that the UN’s resolution continues the body’s pattern of undermining Israel as a sovereign, democratic nation.

Collins added that the United States’ failure to veto the measure, however, marks one of the most disturbing departures from the thoughtful precedent that has governed the U.S.’s relationship with Israel.

According to Collins, it should concern every American that this administration seems to have forgotten the lessons of history in refusing to stand up for the U.S.’s friends in Israel.

He said a sustainable, responsible approach to international relations means that the U.S. exercises foresight in defending its allies.

Collins claimed that the U.S. flouted American precedent by abstaining from the vote and adds the president has made the path toward peace between Israel and Palestine more challenging.

He said that when a terrorist organization welcomes a new direction in American foreign policy, the U.S. should quickly reevaluate its own path, stating that cowardice and capitulation on the world stage do nothing to advance peace in the Middle East or elsewhere.
