Collins Introduces Tax Credit Accountability Act

Northeast Georgia’s representative in the U.S. House is introducing a bill he says would block a federal tax credit from those not in the country legally.

Tuesday, 9th District U.S. Representative Doug Collins introduced the “Tax Credit Accountability Act.”

Collins said his bill would prevent anyone lacking lawful immigration status from being eligible to receive the Earned Income Tax Credit.

The Hall County Republican called the legislation necessary for defending the rule of law and the integrity of the tax system.

According to Collins, the president has used executive amnesty to enact policies to help illegal immigrants at the expense of American citizens.

Calling it an amnesty bonus, Collins said illegal immigrants are being financially rewarded for breaking the law with a benefit that is supposed to be reserved for lawful citizens of this country.

He said Congress can’t allow laws to be cheapened and adds that lawful status must be a requirement for any benefit, tax or otherwise.

Collins’ office said his “Tax Credit Accountability Act” is supported by the Federation for American Immigration Reform and Numbers USA.
