Collins Comments On Recent Supreme Court Rulings

9th District U.S. Representative Doug Collins has issued statements on two rulings last week by the U.S. Supreme Court.

First on the ruling in the case that upheld the health insurance payment subsidies under the Affordable Care Act, Collins said now that the backbone of Obamacare has been upheld, the best option left to Congress, despite voting to repeal or defund the law 66 times, is to try to replace it.

He said he has introduced a replacement called the Health Care Compact, a bill he said would hand control back to the states, and give them the primary responsibility of designing a healthcare system that works for their citizens.

Collins said Republicans owe it to this country to find a workable solution for every state, and bring health care regulations back to being patient-centered, accessible, and affordable.

Meanwhile, Collins also accused the Supreme Court of overstepping its boundaries in its ruling last week legalizing same-sex marriage.

Collins said that many states have already voted to keep the definition of marriage to one man and one woman, and he calls the court’s decision a gross infringement on American democracy.

He said that the court should not have circumvented the will of the people, but says he feels the Court is more interested in legislating from the bench than letting the will of the people determine what the laws are going to be.

Collins also stated his support for a constitutional amendment defining marriage between one man and one woman.
