Ninth District U.S. Representative Doug Collins signs on to support the Fair Tax.

In a statement issued Monday, Collins announced that he had become an original co-sponsor for House Resolution 25, the Fair Tax Act.

The legislation calls for a national consumption based tax and the elimination of the 16th amendment to the Constitution.

The act’s sponsor is fellow Georgia Congressman, Rob Woodall, a Republican who represents the 7th U.S. House district in Georgia, which includes parts of the northeast Atlanta area such as Buford, Norcross, and Lawrenceville.

Stating that he campaigned on the need for serious reform to the American tax code, Collins called the Fair Tax bill a representation of smart fiscal policy that will provide the means to revolutionize the tax system

Collins went on to say in his statement that the Fair Tax is the best way to ensure hardworking Americans are able to keep more of their paychecks and protect those same taxpayers from unjust financial intrusions by the federal government.
