Clinic Honoring Paralympic Athlete McKenzie Coan

The Toccoa Clinic will honor paralympian McKenzie Coan next week as she competes in the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and invites citizens of the region to join the celebration.

On Tuesday, August 23, the Clinic will launch a “memory book relay” throughout the northeast Georgia area celebrating Coan’s competition in the games, slated to begin September 7 in Rio.

Friends and fans are invited to help launch the memory book relay by signing the special book at Paul Anderson Park on Tugalo Street in downtown Toccoa, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on August 23.

The August 23rd event starts the memory book relay. It will conclude with a community celebration and homecoming when Coan returns from Rio in mid-September.

The memory book, with brief handwritten messages of support and encouragement, will travel to Toccoa Clinic’s satellite clinics in Clayton, Lavonia, Clarkesville and Demorest and to other locations in the region by request.

Those interested in hosting the memory book at their worksite may call Deborah Gibby at 706.282-5234.

Coan holds American Paralympic swimming records in the backstroke, butterfly and freestyle competitions and currently attends Loyola University in Maryland.

She is the daughter of Dr. Marc Coan, who has practiced internal medicine at the Toccoa Clinic since 1990.
