“Click it or Ticket” Starts Today

The Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration are teaming up with local and state law enforcement over the next couple of weeks for the 2016 National “Click It or Ticket” mobilization.

It starts today and runs through June 5.

Among the agencies participating is the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Randy Shirley said that his deputies will be out watching specifically for seat belt violations.

“We will be working all the main highways in Stephens County,” said Shirley. “There will be no warnings. There will be all citations.”

Shirley went on to say that this year’s focus is on seat belt violations at night, between the hours of 6 p.m. and 5:59 a.m.

He said statistics show that is when most accidents occur where people are not wearing seat belts.

Shirley said that research from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that while passenger vehicle occupants are getting better about buckling up during the day, seat belt violations are still a major problem at night.
