Clarkesville Golfer Plays in U.S. Open

A golfer from Habersham County competes in the U.S. Open this past weekend.

Clarkesville’s Lee McCoy was among those in the field at Chambers Bay this past weekend.

McCoy missed the cut, which came on Friday after 36 holes of the 72-hole tournament.

For the two rounds he played, McCoy shot a total of eight-over-par 148, shooting a 74 in both the first round and the second round.

The cut was 5 over par.

McCoy is a golfer at the University of Georgia and just wrapped up his junior season.

During this past year, he was an All-American, first-team all-Southeastern Conference, and finished 33rd in stroke play at the NCAA Championships.

He is a 2012 graduate of Habersham Central High School.
