City Signs Jail Housing Agreement

The city of Toccoa signs off on a jail inmate housing agreement with Stephens County.

City commissioners unanimously voted to approve the agreement Monday night that covers the housing of city inmates at the Stephens County Jail.

According to Toccoa City Manager Billy Morse, city and county officials agreed at a joint meeting last year that such an agreement needed to be put in place as one did not exist.

Morse says the agreement put forward by the county and approved by the city mirrors very closely the current practices and places no new financial obligations on the city.

City officials say the agreement is good for one year and will renew automatically annually for a period of four years unless either side chooses to terminate the agreement.

That can be done by either side for any reason with a 30-day written notice.
