City of Toccoa to Hold Public Hearings Next Month

The City of Toccoa will be holding public hearings next month to get input on the Fiscal 2018 budget.

City Manager Billy Morse said the budget for the next fiscal year is complete except for the public hearings.

Toccoa’s new fiscal year begins July 1.

According to Morse, the fiscal 2018 budget is just over $34-million dollars.

That’s smaller than this year’s budget, but Morse said the good news is there are no increases planned in taxes or utilities.

Morse said in January the City Commission approved a long list of projects for all departments.

Work on a number of those projects have already begun and will continue into the next fiscal year.

Other initiatives for FY18 include applying for safety grants for all departments, continuing with the sidewalk improvement and street resurfacing plans, as well as continued work on improvements at the water/wastewater and natural gas systems.

Toccoa has also built up its reserve fund to just over $400,000 and Morse said any extra revenues will go towards growing that fund.

Again, the public hearings will take place at both Toccoa City Commission meetings in May.
A final vote to pass the FY18 budget will be taken in June.
