City of Toccoa Presents Donation to United Way

The city of Toccoa raises thousands of dollars for the United Way of Stephens County.

City officials announced recently that the city government, through its employees and others, raised a record total of $3,655 for the organization.

A group from the city, led by Commissioner Terry Carter, presented the check last month to local United Way representatives.

Heading up the city’s efforts were Ashley Ward and Brenda Yearwood while United Way Advisory Board Member Danette Smith worked with the city on the effort.

Yearwood also credited Carter, who served as Mayor last year, for his support and leadership in the effort.

Stephens County United Way Chair Tammy Riddle said that the organization was thrilled to have the city participate again this year.

Riddle said the City of Toccoa has worked hard in years past always coming up with great activities for the employees.

This year, the city held a number of events during the United Way campaign, including a golf tournament at the Links at Lake Toccoa, a hot dog lunch, and a bake sale.

According to Riddle, the success of the United Way in Stephens County rests on the support of community employers like the city of Toccoa.
