City of Toccoa Looks to Expand Industrial Pre-Treament Program

The city of Toccoa is looking to expand its capacity to increase its industrial wastewater pre-treatment program.

Last week, Toccoa City Commissioners unanimously approved spending $14,000 to $17,000 in engineering fees to double the amount of industrial pre-treatment that the city is allowed.

Toccoa City Manager Billy Morse said that currently, the city’s Industrial Pretreatment Program at the Eastanollee Wastewater Treatment Facility has very limited extra capacity.

According to Morse, the city’s limit is 100,000 gallons, of which 90,000 is already allocated, leaving only 10,000 gallons to spare.

Morse said that limits the city’s current ability to offer adequate capacity to potential future Industrial Pre-treatment customers, like new industries.

He said the city was presented with two options to double the city’s Industrial Pre-treatment capacity.

According to Morse, the recommendation is to select an option that costs more, but provides the city with more flexibility in how it allocates that capacity.

The increase will require the approval of the Georgia Environmental Protection Division.

Toccoa will use available SPLOST funds to pay for the work.
