City, County Thank Crews for Storm Work Over Weekend

Toccoa and Stephens County officials say things went well over the weekend when it came to dealing with the winter weather that moved through.

Downtown Toccoa received 1.5 inches of snow after well over an inch of rain and some sleet.

Toccoa City Manager Billy Morse said that there were no major problems in the city.

“I am proud of the departments and the work they did,” said Morse. “We dodged a bullet by not getting the ice.”

According to Morse, public works plowed what snow did fall.

“I thought the roads were in fairly good shape,” said Morse about conditions Saturday morning.

Morse said the fire department did have at least one call it had to respond to and normal calls were also responded to throughout.

Meanwhile in the county, Stephens County Administrator Phyllis Ayers said they also appear to have come out of it without any major issues.

“I think things went very well Friday night into Saturday,” said Ayers, who said she felt like public works did very well.

Both Toccoa City and Stephens County Commissioners said at their meetings on Tuesday that they appreciated the efforts of all of their staff with public works, public safety, and law enforcement.

County commissioners also thanked volunteer firefighters for staffing their stations overnight throughout the storm.
