City Buys Screen, Projector for Schaefer Center

The city of Toccoa continues improvements at the Schaefer Center downtown.

Monday, city commissioners voted unanimously to purchase a screen and projector for the facility.

Toccoa City Manager Billy Morse said this will replace the previous policy of leasing the equipment when doing things like showing movies at the Schaefer Center.

“We have been renting a smaller inflatable screen, but the company is no longer in business,” said Morse.

The low bid was from Edmonson Technology in Winterville, Georgia at $20,639.13.

The city, Morse said, will also have to buy a Blu-Ray player and do some additional work at the Schaefer Center.

Morse said they would like have it all installed by this Spring.

Toccoa City Commissioner David Austin said he is glad to see continued work to improve the Schaefer Center.

“I look forward to the day we have that Ritz marquis installed,” said Austin.

The city commission and Downtown Development Authority have set continued promotion of and recruitment of events to the Schaefer Center as a main goal for 2015, along with continued renovation of the facility at the corner of Broad and Doyle streets.

The two boards discussed their goals for the year ahead at a work session prior to Monday’s meeting.

Other primary 2015 goals the two sides discussed for downtown include recruiting new businesses for downtown and promoting existing businesses and continuing beautification proejcts.
