City Announces Festival of Trees Winner

Main Street Toccoa announces the winner for this year’s Festival of Trees.

Monday, Main Street Events Coordinator Sharon Crosby said that the Horti-floral Garden Club’s entry won this year’s seventh annual Festival of Trees.

Crosby said that the club was a deserving winner.

“Their tree was beautifully decorated and everything was natural on the tree,” said Crosby. “They had a lot of support for it.”

This year’s Festival of Trees took place on December 5 and 6 in the historic Stephens County Courthouse in downtown Toccoa.

Crosby said that they appreciate all of the businesses and organizations that participated this year by putting up a tree to raise money for a non-profit or charity.

“This year, we had 11 different trees that were decorated by businesses or non-profit organizations,” said Crosby. “People were able to vote for their favorite tree. It was $1 a vote.”

Each group kept the money raised from the votes for its tree to give to its particular charity or non-profit.

Crosby said in all, over $1,000 was raised through the event.

“We are very excited at the amount was raised and that goes back into our charities and non-profits here in Stephens County,” said Crosby.

For having the most votes, the Horti-floral Garden Club received the $500 grand prize.

Crosby said the money the club raised through their tree will go to help purchase a Blue Star Memorial Plaque.
