City Announces Details of Golf Course Grand Opening

The city of Toccoa is announcing details about the plans for the opening of the city golf course next month.

September 3 is the scheduled grand opening date for the Links at Lake Toccoa as it is unveiled following months of renovations.

Toccoa City Manager Billy Morse said that the course will be ready for its opening day.

“We have grown in the new greens and they look very good,” said Morse. “We have re-surfaced the cart paths. We have new carts in. We are finishing up renovations up to the pro shop.”

Morse said they are excited and proud of what has been accomplished at the golf course.

The September 3 grand opening festivities will begin at 10:30 a.m. with a ceremony to officially retire an old 48-star flag found at the pro shop, followed by the raising of a new flag.

Following that will be the Chamber ribbon cutting and the ceremonial tee shots to open the course.

That evening, the Chamber will have a “Business After Hours” in the pro shop from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

Refreshments will be served and the public is invited.

Meanwhile, it will be a busy weekend at Lake Toccoa as the golf course re-opens.

On Saturday, September 5, the city will host a fishing tournament at Lake Toccoa.

Main Street Events Coordinator Sharon Crosby said all ages are invited to participate.

“The tournament will start at 8 a.m. and go until 12 p.m.,” said Crosby. “The lake will be newly stocked.”

Only bankside fishing will be allowed and there is no fee to participate, but a fishing license is required.

Prizes will be awarded in a number of categories, including youngest participant, oldest participant, largest fish, smallest fish, and the most fish caught.

Registration will be located in the parking lot at the pier.
