Chase In Habersham Ends In Arrest

A chase out of metro Atlanta ends in Habersham county with an arrest.

The Habersham County Sheriff’s Office said that on Saturday at 6:43 a.m., Habersham County Dispatch notified the on duty law enforcement, via radio to “Be On the Look Out” for a white Chevrolet pickup truck, with “Pepsi” written on it, traveling northbound on Georgia Highway 365.

According to authorities, Gwinnett County Police Department Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle and it continued north and the driver had thrown what appeared to be narcotics from the window.

Habersham County Sheriff’s Office Deputies reportedly made contact with a vehicle fitting the description of the “BOLO vehicle” and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver refused to stop and initiated a chase in the area of Hayes Chevrolet in Baldwin on Highway 365 North.

The Habersham County Sheriff’s Office said deputies pursued the vehicle, with the fleeing vehicle reaching speeds in excess of 90 miles per hour, to the area of the Demorest-Mt. Airy Highway, where Georgia State Patrol joined and took over the pursuit.

The Georgia State Patrol conducted the Precision Immobilization Technique, or “PIT” maneuver, on the vehicle just south of Cody Rd. on Highway 365, stopping the vehicle and ending the chase.

There were no injuries to anyone involved and minimal vehicle damage to both vehicles.

According to the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office, the vehicle has been confirmed as stolen from the Pepsi Fleet Truck Location in Atlanta by the Atlanta Police Department.

Authorities say the driver was identified as Jeimere Haney from Atlanta.

Haney was arrested and transported to the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center where he will be charged with Felony Fleeing and Attempting to Elude, DUI, Theft by Receiving Stolen Property, and Driving Without a License.

In addition, authorities said Haney will possibly have pending charges from the Atlanta Police Department, Dekalb County and Gwinnett County for crimes related to this incident.
