Change Clocks Back One Hour Saturday Night

It’s time to fall back this weekend and change those clocks back one hour before going to bed Saturday night as we go back to standard time on Sunday.

Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner Ralph Hudgens said that while you change those clocks, it is also a good time to change the batteries in your smoke alarms.

“It is of crucial importance to be safe,” said Hudgens. “A battery is a very, very small investment to save a life. Last year, we had 82 fatal house fires in Georgia and only nine of them had working smoke alarms.”

Hudgens said to make sure that smoke alarm is in working order because having a working smoke alarm doubles the chances that you will survive a house fire.

Besides changing the battery, he also says people should clean dust from the device.

Meanwhile, Hudgens also said that changing the clocks can also serve as a good time to review that family emergency fire plan.

“It is important to have a location outside of the house, a safe distance away from the house that you can meet to count noses and make sure everyone is accounted for,” said Hudgens.

Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday, so again change clocks back one hour before going to bed Saturday night.
