The Chamber held a ribbon cutting Thursday for the Fern Point Apartments off of Fernside Drive.
Fern Point is a 48-unit housing development consisting of one-to-three-bedroom units.
Managing General Partner Bill Rea said the project is funded with tax credits from the Department of Community Affairs in a public-private partnership that helps keep rent prices lower than they otherwise would have been.
Rea said the goal is to create workforce housing.
“This is not a give-away program,” said Rea. “These are people that work, have jobs. We rent to people that typically make 60 percent of median. In Toccoa, that means people that are making $20,000 to $35,000. You have to come in and pay rent. It is workforce housing. It is teachers, public servants, people that are in that price range.”
While most of the units are already occupied, Rea says a few units remain.
