Chain Reaction Accident Sends Car Into Home

An accident in Toccoa over the weekend damages multiple vehicles and a house.

Toccoa Police Chief Tim Jarrell said it happened at about 1 p.m. on Sunday.

He said officers were dispatched to the intersection of South Pond and Williams streets in Toccoa in reference to a three-car motor vehicle accident.

“When officers arrived, they found a 2005 Chrysler 300 with extensive damage to the front bumper area, a 2015 Kia Soul with extensive damage to the rear and front bumper area, and a 2016 Kia Sorento partially under the residence, with extensive damage to its front and rear bumper,” said Jarrell.

Jarrell said the Kia Soul and Kia Sorento were sitting in the driveway of the residence, unoccupied.

According to Jarrell, the investigation determined that the first vehicle hit one of the other two, causing the accident.

“Corporal Erik Carter of the Toccoa Police Department was able to determine from his investigation that the Chyrsler 300 that was driven by Dawn Towers of Toccoa was traveling south on Pond Street, ran off the roadway and struck the 2015 Kia Soul, and then pushed the Kia Soul into the rear of the 2016 Kia Sorento, which knocked the Sorento into the house, causing it to partially go under the house,” said Jarrell.

Nobody was injured as a result of the accident.

Jarrell said that the driver of the first vehicle, Towers, who is 50 years old, was charged with DUI, Reckless Driving, and Failure to Maintain Lane.

She was released on bond.

Jarrell said additional charges are pending as the investigation into the incident continues.
