A local bank gets a name change.
Community Bank and Trust officially became South State Bank this week.
South Carolina Bank and Trust, which was the parent company of Community Bank and Trust, had announced the name change back in February.
Community Bank and Trust, along with four other bank brands in three states, all switched to the name “South State Bank.”
South Carolina Bank and Trust officials say that wit all bank divisions operating under one name and on one system customers will be able to do their banking at any location throughout the three-state network.
When making the announcement earlier this year, SCBT CEO Robert R. Hill Jr. called it a great next step for the company.
Hill said the new name reflects the bank’s strength and stability, while also providing greater convenience and increased access for customers.
South Carolina Bank and Trust took over Community Bank and Trust back in 2010 after the FDIC annouced that the Cornelia-based bank had failed.
