The 2018 Independence Day travel period claimed 5 lives this year. According to the Georgia State Patrol, the 30-hour holiday period began on Tuesday, July 3, at 6:00 p.m. and ended Wednesday at 11:59 p.m. Statewide, GSP troopers investigated 131 traffic crashes that resulted in 59 injuries.
