Cat Castration Case Headed To Mediation, Says Shelter Director

The cat castration case involving an agriculture teacher at Stephens County High School is headed into out of court negotiations at the order of the Stephens County Magistrate Judge.

Toccoa-Stephens County Humane Shelter Director Jeff Roberts said that an outside third party is going to discuss the case with both sides.

“The judge has basically ordered mediation,” said Roberts.

Roberts provided that update to the Toccoa-Stephens County Humane Shelter Board at its meeting on Tuesday.

He said he expects the mediation to take place in the next few weeks, with the goal being a settlement in the case.

Daniel Hebert was issued a summons in November to appear in Magistrate Court in Stephens County on two counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty.

It all centers around alleged cat castration that took place in an Animal Science class at Stephens County High School last Fall.
