Campaign To Help School System Starting Up

An informational meeting today will look to bring members of the community together in an effort and campaign to raise support for the Stephens County school system in light of its current financial situation.

The Learning Tree Academy has announced it is starting the “One Rope, One Hope” campaign.

Logan Harris is one of the organizers.

She said the goal is to bring the community together to raise support for the school system by doing a lot of different things to show that the community is willing to help to fight for the school system.

“What we are looking to do is pull together many members and organizations throughout the community to assist in raising funds, but also assist in other ways for the staff and the school system as a whole,” said Harris.

She mentioned volunteering time and offering encouragement as other ways that they would look to help.

Harris said every year, the Academy does a themed camp and this year, they had decided to go with a theme of “spring into action.”

From there, she said the idea grew to go beyond just a week of fun.

“I would like to help to give the kids purpose, give the community ownership over what is going on and us all pull together,” said Harris.

A meeting is taking place at noon today at the Learning Tree Academy in Toccoa to begin organizing the campaign.

Anyone interested in participating is invited to the meeting.

Harris said the meeting will serve as an introduction and a chance to share ideas.

“What I would like to do at this meeting is present our ideas,” said Harris. “Also, I would like to receive feedback from members in the community about ways they feel they can contribute.”

For those who cannot attend today’s meeting or would like more information, Harris says they can call 706-886-9900 or e-mail [email protected].
