January 31, 2013

Clearer skies are in the forecast today after a wild afternoon on the weather front Wednesday.

Heavy rain moved through downtown Toccoa Wednesday afternoon and evening, canceling some church services and evening activities.

At one point, part of east-central Stephens County was under a tornado warning during the late afternoon Wednesday.

However, reports indicate that no tornado was spotted and the warning was lifted after a short time.

Overall, downtown Toccoa received 1.86 inches inches of rain yesterday and overnight. Downtown Toccoa has received 9.02 inches of rain for the month of January, over three inches more rain than last January, when 5.68 inches of rain fell in downtown Toccoa.

While skies are clearer today, the wind was up this morning, with a 33 mile per hour wind gust, and temperatures are expected to be much cooler.
