Call for Service Leads to Arrest

A man faces a charge after deputies were called to a Toccoa residence last week.

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley said that deputies responded to a call for service in Toccoa regarding an alleged violation of a Temporary Protective Order last Thursday.

Shirley said based on evidence obtained during the report, deputies issued an arrest warrant for 38-year-old Mark Allen Stamey on a charge of Aggravated Stalking.

The sheriff said that the next day, July 29, deputies from the Sheriff’s Office went to a residence on North Holcomb Drive in an attempt to serve the outstanding warrant on Stamey.

“As they arrived at the residence, down in the Bruce Creek/Lake Harbor Shores area of Stephens County, the suspect, Mark Stamey, jumped out of the back window and tried to elude my deputies on foot,” said Shirley. “They were able to catch up to him and tackle him. After a brief struggle on the ground, in the mud, they were able to affect an arrest.”

Shirley said Stamey was transported to the Stephens County Detention Center.
